My experience with buying a used camera
25 September 2026
Its 7:09 pm here in India when I am writing this. So, I was thinking about sharing with you the experience I had with buying a camera and here I am.
So where does the thought of buying a camera sprinkled into my mind from? It was my elder sister, she wanted a camera which she told me many times. So, I decided that I will gift her a camera on her birthday. Now after the decision was made keeping a certain budget in mind, it was time to begin my search.
I will keep the journey here short and tell you the summary. My budget was around 20000 INR, so it was already in my mind that I will have to go for a used camera. I searched many places including offline (local shops), and online (Etsy, Olx, and many other websites) but nothing was fitting me right. Used DSLRs were cheap but I didn't wanted them because of their size. I wanted a compact camera and my search lead me to mirrorless cameras. I liked this category because lenses can be interchanged in future, and they also click brilliant photos. Now for the model, I liked sony a6000 and a5000. Both of these cameras were the first ones I got to know about from my search on web and Youtube videos. But the problem was their price, in used marketplaces they were selling for more than 25000 INR or 300USD. It was clearly out of my budget to go for them.
Many other things happened in between but keeping it short:
After searching many websites I was recommended by a friend to look for more local shops and then I came to a stop at Delhi. Delhi's Chandni Chowk market has a huge market for second hand cameras. But I was not going to travel there, so I started to look for store's websites and contact numbers. And in the very end I found it CameraClub was the place where I bought my camera, the sony A6000. I contacted them directly on phone and after negotiating some, they agreed on a price of 22500 INR. It was slightly out of my budget but I had to go for it.
My only complaint with them is the customer support. After making my payment, they told me that they will share tracking ID of my order when it ships but the link never cam
e. I have to call them 4 times on different days to get the tracking link. Actually it was fault on DTDC's side too. I will write another blog for that one.
If you want me to tell you about my purchase in full detail, I will make a different blog because it was too long of a process.
In the end, I had to go to DTDC's processing centre myself because they were not delivering the order to me when I required it (on my sister's birthday).
Thanks for reading
I am enjoying my camera.
I was trying to finish this blog fast but I could not. Sorry for being late.
